because of a leak, but still runs cold so I decided to get this instead
of the cost repairing or replacing it. Pros: 1) It’s described as a
countertop appliance so it is small enough that it fits under your
cabinets (see image #2). 2) It produces ice rather quickly (within 6
minutes) so it’s always working on filling the ice bin (included) as
long as there is continuous water supply. 3) It works quietly while
producing the ice. 4) It has a water dispenser that can be pushed in
while not in use and pop out when ready to use with the push of a
button. 4) It holds up to 5 lbs of ice. 5) The ice bin can be removed
for dumping ice into another container. 6) Melted ice can be recycled
and reused for the next cycle of ice making. 7) You can manually add
water into the top or remove the ice bin and pour into the bottom. 8) It
allows you to make three different sizes of ice cubes. Cons: 1)
Although it is described as a countertop, if you use a bottle on top for
water supply, it will block your cabinets (see image #2). 2) Although
it works quietly (as quiet as an ice maker in a refrigerator), it
produces noice when dumping fresh ice into the bin. 3) The water
dispenser is slow, you have to hold the button approximately 20 seconds
per 8 ounces of water. 4) Unfortunately it doesn’t keep the ice from
melting, it melts into the bottom and gets recycled back through the
process. 5) Due to the ice melting, if you pull the ice bin out to dump
into another container, you will likely spill the water. You’ll need to
tilt the ice bin up so the excess water drains out of the back. 6) If
adding water manually, it takes a minute to add 16 ounces from the top
as it will overflow if adding too much too quickly (doesn’t really
appear to be designed for this option but it’s possible). 7) If adding
water to the bottom you have to be careful about water accumulated in
the ice bin due to Con #4 & 5. 8) Doesn’t light up the buttons at
night. Other things to consider: 1) Be sure not to place the machine
near appliances that get hot, such as stoves, toaster ovens, etc. It
need to breathe in cool, fresh air to work effectively. 2) There are
other options that allow you to dispense the ice as well as cold &
hot water and are priced the same. 3) Several reviews complain about the
taste of water. Read the directions before using it. As with anything
new, you’ll need to run some water through the system to get rid of the
brand new plastic taste. I would recommend at least a gallon or two
(just use tap water so you don’t waste money on your bottled water).
Unfortunately, too many people don’t read the instructions and then
complain about their own mistake. You would need to do the same thing

Purchase Love this little ice maker. My last house had a commercial
clear ice maker at the bar and I have missed it for years. Decided to
try this machine. Amazingly fast. I fill a large ice bucket in 90
minutes. Originally I decided to run the machine 24/7 and I started to
get some water build up. I drained the machine and started over and it’s
been fine. I would say this is a great machine for cocktail night.
Start it 90 minutes before and the bin will be full. As seen in the
photos the cubes are somewhat stuck together. They pretty much break up
as you toss them into the bucket. And I use a wooden cocktail muddler to

Do Occur and Quality of the Ice Declines Over Time (See Updates Below)

really like this ice maker for the one month I have had it. I give it
only 4 stars because I haven’t had it long enough to have experienced
any problems keeping it clean or to evaluate possible reliability
problems. So far it does what I wanted it to do. I also agree with all
previous comments. The cubes are smaller than I would prefer and they do
have holes in them. But the unit is compact, reasonably attractive as
an appliance and produces acceptable ice. I haven’t owned any previous
stand alone ice makers but I find the quality of the ice acceptable as a
substitute for the ice my refrigerator unit (no longer working) used to
produce. I would say the quantity of ice produced is adequate for
either a couple or even a family of four. Ideally you would store the
ice made in a freezer and only use the IM200SS periodically. It does
make some noise when the compressor is operating so placing it in a
bedroom might not be advisable. But in a kitchen or living room it
shouldn’t matter. UPDATE 11/17/2014 I’ve had this ice maker for a year
now and I’m lowering the rating I give it from four stars to only two.
At the moment it is still making acceptable ice but there have been
problems. The first was that a brown scum would accumulate in the area
under the ice bucket. I assumed that some metallic part in the ice maker
was rusting but it may be something else though I can’t imagine what
that would be. I cleaned that tank. Oddly the ice itself never seemed to
be affected (no odd taste.) Then it began making ice that was too thick
to eject into the bucket. I turned it off and allowed it to reach room
temperature and then only partly filled the water reserve tank. That
fixed that problem. Next the controller that limits the amount of water
from the reserve each ice making cycle stopped working and all the water
in the water reserve tank would flow into the tank under the ice bucket
and flood the ice. Not good. Again I even more severely limited the
amount of water I would put into the water reserve tank and also
contrived to raise the ice bucket about an inch using small button
magnets attached under the ice bucket to adjust the height. This last so
I could use more water and not have to refill the tank as often. But
about two months ago I discovered that the limiter problem has now cured
itself (at least for the time being.) Now only the brown scum and thick
ice problems remain but they are only intermittent. Still, on balance, I
am glad I bought this system because the ice it makes has always been
very good. I appreciate that building an ice making machine this compact
is challenging. But no more than two stars for this one. UPDATE
7/17/2017 The problem of keeping the unit clean became progressively
more difficult. The brown scum continued to appear and must be rust from
some part of the system that should be made of stainless steel. At
times the residue in the bottom of the ice reservoir (that is, below the
ice bucket) would take on an oily/slimy feel. I just wish they had put
more thought into the materials that were in contact with the water. I
finally sent the unit to the trash bin about a month ago. In the
preceding four months I was needing to clean the unit every two weeks or
so. And, although my taste buds aren’t what they used to be, I believe I
could detect an odd taste to the ice. I started to worry whether I was
doing damage to myself using the ice. That together with the difficulty
of keeping it clean led me to dispose of the unit. Final conclusion –
if you are willing to buy a new unit every couple of years this is the
unit for you as initially I found the ice to be of high quality. But I
would hope for more from such an appliance, maybe five years between
replacement. So I’ve lowered the rating to (now) one star. Read more 55

Good ice maker, not sure why it costs more than others Reviewed in the

ice maker I’d say it performs well. When starting from room temperature
it takes a while to get going to its advertised speed of 28 lbs a day,
but after a while J think it does that and probable exceeds. Keep in
mind it only holds a couple pounds of ice before the bin is full. Quiet
enough but not silent. You’ll definitely know it’s running. I wish it
had a window so I could see how it’s producing without having to open
the lid. Ice comes out in sheets so you’ll need to get a better scoop or
ice pick to break it apart. Overall I’d say it’s good, makes nice ice,
probably a little overpriced for what it is, but happy with the
purchase. Best for situations where you can make ice in advance or for
small parties where you only need a couple pounds of ice an hour for
